History

The school was established on August 1st 1968 by splitting of the High School of Economics in Februárového vítazstva Street into two entirely independent schools. The school was located in Prievoz, Mlynské Luhy 2 in the beginning.

After a new housing estate in Petržalka was finished, the school moved into a new building on November 1st 1979 and it has become its seat so far.
A significant change of the name was made in 1990. Since then the school has been called the Academy of Commerce, Hrobákova 11.

In the school year of 1991/92 the bilingual study in classes of Slovak - German education started after the intergovernmental cultural agreement. Teaching is provided by Austrian and by Slovak teachers, both teaching specialized subjects, depending on possibilities of the school management.

On September 1st 1993 a 5 year-experimental study specialized in banking started. It resulted from the needs of the banking and financial industry development after 1990.

In the school years of 1997/98 till 2003/04 was this study limited to a 4-year course. On September 1st 2004 the 4-year study of the standard Academy of Commerce with banking as an optional subject started. Since September 1st 2001 except for a 4-year full time study for elementary school leavers a 2-year full time one as a qualifying study of banking for general secondary school leavers and a 2-year full time study of market services for academy of commerce leavers has been introduced.

Since the beginning of its existence the results in the educational field have been rather remarkable. This fact attracts a large number of students and their parents. The students are highly ranked in regional and district competitions both of educational and sports kind. Our students are later on successful university students whether inland or abroad. It is due to the effort of our teachers to keep a high level of academic background, the students themselves and a good reputation of the school, which has been made in the last 35 years. It is proved by the position of the school, as a teaching centre for the students of the University of Economics in Bratislava.
All this success resulted in giving the school an honorable title of

Academy of Commerce of Imrich Karvaš, Bratislava on April 2nd 2004.
